For many years, climbing federations have organized international meetings. This year the Ceský horolezecký svaz (Czech Mountaineering Federation) invited a group of international climbers to share the climbing experience on their beautiful crags and towers. Trad sandstone climbing is a very specific kind of rock climbing and in the area of Adršpach-Teplice you can find more than 3,000 routes leading to the tops of amazing sandstone spires.
The area is best known for its daring cracks and friction routes; protection is difficult to place on most routes, and what can be placed is done mostly by squeezing rope knots of various sizes into the crags. Routes not only have long run outs, but also very long distances between bolts. As international guests we were accompanied by our Czech host climbers. After climbing, we enjoyed beer and hearty meals and then listened to interesting presentations by some of the Czech Republic’s best climbers.
This world-class climbing area is a must visit spot for adventurers and is worthy of a visit by anyone who loves the beauty of nature!
Stijn Van HulleBorn and raised in the tiny country of Belgium, Stijn is an outdoor enthusiast who loves rock climbing. For Stijn, climbing offers all the things he loves – the physical training, meditation, social life, and ability to travel the world. He climbs to explore his own limits, relishing in the feeling that one gets after years of practice when he is brought to a state of mind where he can feel at one with the rock and natural surroundings. A perfect moment where nothing can disturb you and you can feel the life inside yourself with every breath. His current challenge is to capture the many faces of rock climbing in a single shot.
