There are many places (most of them tropical) in our world where clothing is quite optional. When one thinks of caves however, particularly caves beneath the chilly earth of the UK and France, it’s rather unlikely for thoughts of relaxing in the nude to come to mind.
One particularly daring British caver, photographer Laura Brown, rallied several members in the Westminster Speleological Group to forgo the typical caving necessities of pants, shirts, and shoes as they posed for her calendar, the proceeds of which go entirely to the cave rescue teams SMWCRT Cave Rescue and Yorkshire’s CRO Cave Rescue. With thousands of cavers venturing underground each year in the UK, accidents are an unfortunate reality, and having well trained, well funded teams to provide rescue assistance is a must!
Laura Brown told LetsBeWild.com that she’s had a few scary experiences while caving herself, making her realize how important cave rescue is. With friends of hers needing to be rescued in the past, Brown “wanted to do something for this great cause while raising a few smiles.”
She’s been working on the Barenaked Caving Calendar for the past six months which features the following caves and mines
- Giant’s Hole in Derbyshire
- Slaughterhouse Stream Cave in the Forest of Dean
- Swildon’s Hole in Somerset
- Alum Pot in Yorkshire
- OFD Top in South Wales
- The Paris Catacombs (GRS network)
- Swan Mine in Wiltshire
- Puiselet Sand Quarry in France
- Llygad Llwchwr 2 in South Wales
The calendars are £10 + p&p and are printed on glossy, high quality A3 Paper and posted in strong board back envelopes. They can be ordered from www.barenakedcaving.co.uk, which allows you to pay via PayPal or by check.
