Sunset over the Écrins, Écrins National Park, France

One of my favourite spots in the French Alps – the Écrins are at the southern tip, below Grenoble and above Gap. I’ve skied, ski mountaineered, rock climbed, alpine climbed and cycled down here and simply can’t get enough of it. This particular shot was taken Summer 2011 when my brother and I were staying near Alpe d’Huez for a week to catch a number of stages of the Tour de France (the riders were heading up the famous Col du Galibier a few days later, behind and above where this shot was taken). The village of La Grave (famous for its off-piste skiing) is just visible down the valley.
