Black Butte is an isolated, extinct cinder cone in the Oregon Cascades. It was a chilly 12°F when we started the 2600 foot climb through thick trees – but after 2 hours we were out in the open on the steep final summit slopes – with awesome views of the Cascade Volcanoes like Mount Jefferson looming in the background.
