Salt Production, Sine-Saloum, Republic of Senegal

Photograph by Greg Mignard

I took this picture from an ultra-light aircraft a year ago in the Sine-Saloum, in southern Senegal – a country in western Africa. In the photo you can see the colorful salt production wells; the locals dig big holes in the ground to allow the sea water to infiltrate. The water evaporates and ripens in the sun and they recover the salt that collects on the edges of the wells.
