Hillside Trail, El Camino de Santiago, Spain
Photograph by James Kloote
This summer I took a month long hiking trip in Spain called El Camino de Santiago. On this morning, I hiked up the hillside for several hours until I finally made it to the top.
El Camino de Santiago, the Way of St. James, has existed for more than a thousand years. One of the most important Christian pilgrimages during medieval times, legend has it that Saint James’s remains were carried by boat from Jerusalem to northern Spain where he was buried in what is now the city of Santiago de Compostela.
In 1987, the route was declared the first European Cultural Route by the Council of Europe and it has been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Beautiful post! I lived in Spain for a while and didn’t get round to this but it’s something I’ll definitely have to go back for. Thanks for sharing.

I have been thinking about this trail for the past 5 years or so, it’s always sounded really amazing. This view is quite different to the ones you usually see on posts about it, looks lovely.
