As the vibrant colors of sunset still linger, the moon rises from behind the trees in Juniper Prairie Wilderness in the Ocala National Forest. Located in north-central Florida, the wilder parts of Ocala National Forest are one of the better places to escape into Florida’s backcountry. Backcountry camping opportunities abound and wildlife is plentiful, with deer, bears, and coyotes frequently spotted.

This particular shot was photographed with a Canon T3i (the predecessor to the current Canon T5i, but still an outstanding DSLR) and 50mm f/2.5 compact macro lens – a lightweight combination that isn’t too heavy to hike and backpack several miles with. The 50mm f/2.5 compact macro lens is a very capable lens for macro photography of bugs and flowers along the trails as well as for landscape shots like this.
