After bathing in the holy river Ganges, these Hindus can return to their daily duties. The Ganges is considered to be the most sacred river and is worshipped as the goddess Ganga. The city of Varanasi, where this photo was taken, is situated along the banks of the Ganges in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh. Regarded as a holy city by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
