Ritual along the Banks of the Ganges, Kedar Ghat, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India
Photograph by Raghavan Iyengar
I took this picture during my travel to Varanasi, also known as Kashi or Banaras. I was doing my usual stroll along the ghats of Varanasi. The Ganges was flowing at its best, rituals were taking place on the banks, and spiritual fervor was everywhere. One glance led me to take this photo freezing the motion of the water flowing from the little pot.
Kedar Ghat is the site of a popular temple dedicated to Lord Shiva (Kedarnath) and constructed by the Maharaja of Vijayanagar.
