A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias), surveys its watery habitat in South Florida. A large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, the Great Blue Heron can be found near the shores of wetlands and open water across much of North and Central America.
The largest heron in North America, the Great Blue Heron has a wingspan of up to 79 inches and a height of up to 54 inches, but despite its large size, it weighs less than eight pounds. You can check out some of my wildlife photography tips in this guide.
