Couple in the Wild, Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Montana
Photograph by Roland Taylor
Two geese take flight over the Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge in central Montana. Located in northern Cascade County, the rolling terrain of Benton Lake National Wildlife Refuge is just to the north of Great Falls. Native shortgrass prairie and seasonal wetlands are surrounded by mountains on three sides. To the east are the Highwood Mountains, to the south are the Big Belt Mountains, and to the west are the Rocky Mountains, forming a classic American prairie scene completed by the waterfowl who migrate through the area.
