After a day of fierce storms along the Atlantic coast of Portugal off Peniche, the storms retreated offshore, leaving the seas calm. In the distance a towering cumulonimbus rain-bearing cloud formed, silhouetted against the setting sun.
This extraordinary meteorological phenomenon was photographed with a Canon 5D Mark II with Canon EF 17-40mm F/4 L USM lens, Manfroto XPROB tripod, and Singh Ray 0.9 reverse Graduated Neutral Density filter. My settings for this 6 second exposure were 24mm – f/20 at ISO 50.
