Conic Hill, Balmaha, Scotland

Photograph by Martin Hill

This photograph was taken whilst completing the West Highland Way, a 100 mile trek from Milngavie to Fort William. Conic Hill is a sharp little summit rising above Balmaha, right on the Highland Boundary Fault – on the other side of the hill there would be fantastic views looking out over Loch Lomond and its many islands. We were taking a breather before we ascended up and around the hill with bad weather closing in on us.

Beautiful, can smell the dampness in the air and feel invigorated by the colors in the grasses and plants. The low clouds add the right touch of mystery and drama.
