Canyons within Canyons, Canyonlands National Park, Utah

When I was traveling around the Western US, the area was dealing with a lot of forest fires, which left a heavy haze wherever I went. This is one of the few occasions where it probably added to the picture rather than just obliterating visibility. What I like most about this place is that it just feels like canyons within canyons…you stand on the edge of giant hole only to see another massive opening far below.

Located in southeastern Utah near Moab, Canyonlands National Park preserves 337,598 acres of colorful desert landscape. Rivers divide the national park into four districts, the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the rivers themselves. While all share a primitive desert atmosphere, each district offers unique opportunities for adventure and sightseeing.

Amazing shot – it looks like you were flying when you took it!
