Wild Weekly Photo Challenge: Sunrise - Tina Schell

We were rewarded with a brilliant series of moments I hope never to forget.  The sun turned the granite of the peaks from darkest black, to beautiful blue, to soft grey to a brilliant rosy pink. It finally moved back behind the clouds we’d heard so much about, leaving the towers once again looking dark and mysterious, yet somehow beckoning further exploration.

The First Place Award for this week’s Sunrise Challenge goes to Tina Schell, whose shot of the sun-kissed peaks of Torre Central & Torre Norte in Chilean Patagonia’s breathtaking Parque Nacional Torres del Paine (Torres del Paine National Park) captures the power and beauty of the sunrise!

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge: Sunrise - Barbara Beacham

It was early morning when we were awoken by the sound of thunder. I grabbed my camera and headed out to the screened in patio room while my husband put on a pot of coffee. There were huge clouds that were colored by the sun and I was lucky to catch a shot that included not only a faint rainbow, but lightning as well!

Barbara Beacham has captured the Audience Choice Award this week! People are always impressed by sunrise photos, but a sunrise photo that features a bolt of lightning streaking across the sky? Well, that’s pure photographic gold…and as if that wasn’t quite enough, a rainbow can be seen stretching across the sky too!

It’s never easy for us to pick the honorable mention winners, but as always we’ve done our best!

Ritva takes us across the globe to the magical landscape of Koh Yai Noi in Thailand, where the golden sun rises over PhangNga Bay.

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge: Sunrise - Pauline

We’re headed with Pauline Carroll to the peaceful shores of Queensland, Australia’s Burleigh Beach, where the sun starts to creep over the sea. The waves might be small at dawn, but Burleigh Beach is famous for being one of the best surf spots on Australia’s Gold Coast!

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge: Sunrise - Mairead Khan

While tropical sunrises are always lovely, sometimes it pays to crawl out of bed early even when it’s a little chilly outside! Mairead Khan shows us the beauty of a winter sunrise over Lake Michigan!

Wild Weekly Photo Challenge: Sunrise - Mary

A couple of years back I had a lovely time in Florida providing some respite care for a disabled aunt. My main task was to walk the dog first thing in the morning, precisely at 7am. As a result, I got some pretty nice sunrise shots.

Mary keeps us in the sunshine state with her wonderful photo of the dawn sunlight filtering through the thick branches of a live oak tree, laden with Spanish moss!

Thanks to everyone who joined in the Sunrise Photo Challenge! We hope to see you all in this week’s challenge – Look Up! The more the merrier, so encourage your friends to join in too.

I really love Mary from Florida’s photos, but unfortunately I was unable to comment on her website to tell her. I hope she sees it here. 🙂
